1562 Will of Leonell Harrison

of Preston Bermesey

 

In the name of god amen The xjth [11th] Daye of Auguste in the yere of o[u]r Lorde god 1562 I Leonell Harrison of Preston Bermesey [that is, Preston Bermondsey] and of the parishe of Yevill [in?] the Countie of Somerset being sicke of boddie and whole of mynde and remembrance doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge: first I give and bequeath my soule to almightie god and my boddie to be buried in the Churche or churche yarde of yevell. Item I give and bequeath to the Cathedrall churche of Bathe and Wells xjd [11 pence]. Item I give and bequeath unto the mainten[a]nce of the church of Preston xxs [twenty shillings]. Item I give and bequeath unto the Thomas Harrison my Brother my best [gossant?] my best dublet my best hosen and my best shirte. Item I give to Mathew Harrison the sonne of Thomas Harrison xxli [twenty pounds] of current money. Item I give unto Jane Gaylarde and xpian [that is, Christian] Gaylarde the daughters of John Gaylarde my Brother in Lawe [myor kyne?] and vli vjs viijd [£5 6s 8d] of lawfull money to be devided equally betwixt them both . It[em] I give to elizabeth [Daubeney?] my sisters daughter [ij kyne?] and [myor] marks of currente money Item I give and bequeath unto Will[ia]m Wolf my boye A Cowe Item I give unto John Shewell my boye A Cowe. Item I give ubnto John Stockwell every yere as long as he liveth and dwelling in Yevell one Lode of wood, and to be brought home to his dowe. Item I give and bequeath Unto John [Joan?] Harrison and Alice Harrison the daughters of Lyonell Harrison of Yevill one heifor a peece. Item I give and bequeath to the poore people of the Almes house of yevill every Sondaye iiijd [four pence] for the terme of xij [12] yeres. Item I give and bequeath Unto Johan Lokyer al[ia]s Rogers one heifor. Item i give Unto Agnes Goddard my maide one heiforde [weynelinge?] Calf And my Executor to fynde it untill it be three yeres of Age. Item I give and bequeath unto ev[er]y of my godchildren iiijd [four pence] Item I give and bequeath unto Johan Harrison my Wife xl li [forty pounds] of currante money vj [six] silver Spoons toe beddes that is to say a fetherbed and a flocke bedd ij [2] coverlets ij [2] paire of blankets iij [3] paire of shetes ij [2] bowlsters ij [2] pillowes ij [2] crocks the one of the biggest parte th[e]other of a [menor?] sorte ij [2] pannes a Skillet a [Brache?] a chasinge dishe iij [3] platters ij [2] poringers ij [2] Sawsers ij [2] Candlesticks ij [2] boordeclothes one of [diaper ?] and the other of [camias ?] iiij [4] boorde napkins and all her apparell ij [2] [Kyne ?] and ij [2] milche heifors Furthermore I give Unto Jone Harrison my Wief the huse next to John Whitby w[i]th th[e]orchard and the backsyde rentfree as long as she liveth. Also I give and beqeath Unto Jone my Wief [illegible number] li xiijs iiijd (£? 13s 4d] evry yere so longe as she liveth of currante money to be paied her oute of suche grounde as John Simpson and Thomas Lokier now holdeth yf the yeres of my Lease so long laste. Item I give and bequeath to John Whitby of Preston Barmesey the Bargaine which he now posesseth with all the app[urtenan]ces for terme of my yeres paying yerly the rent being xl viijs (£10 8s] to my executore. Item I give and bequeath to Lionell Whitby and Anthony Whitby the sonne of the said Lionell one pece of grounde called Brode meade in Stone for terme of theire lives yf the yeres of my Leace so long last paieng yerely rente being xls [40 shillings]. Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Lokyar my brother in law and to his Wief being my sister all suche grounde as he now holdeth for terme of their Lives who so liveth longest paieng the yerely Rent heretofore payed and accustomed to be paied. Item I give and bequeath unto John Sampson of Socke [that is, Mudford Sock] all suche grounds as he now holdeth during his naturall lief if the yeres of my leace soe longe laste paieng suche yerely rente as heretofore he hath paied. Item I give and bequeath to Thomas Will[ia]ms th[ey]onger the same house with thapp[urtenanc]es which he now holdeth for terme of his lief yf the yeres of my lease so longe laste paieng the yerely rent heretofore paied and accustomed. Item I give and bequeath to Lionell Harrison of Yevill Will[ia]m Songe of the same parish Thomas Beaton of Socke one pece of pasture called [Codfeld ?] Lieng in [Estinesh ?] Penne for terme of theire lives yf the yeres of my lease soe longe laste paieng the yerely rent heretofore paied notwithstanding the aforesaide Thomas to paye the Renye for his parte as Lionell Harrison and Will[ia]m Songe hath heretofore paied. Item I give to Anthony Donne of yevill and his wief the house which he now posesseth rent free during theire lives yf the yeres of my lease so longe laste. Moreov[er] I give unto the saide Anthony & [word illegible] a dublet a paire of hoses and unto his wief a heifer. Item I give unto all my brothers and sisters children having heretofore nothing given unto them to every of them one sheppe to be delivered to them by the discrecon of my Overseers.  Item I give and bequeath unto Henry Moore one mill called Peakon Mill with all suche grounde as he now holdeth for terme of his lief his wives and theire lawfull children yf the yeres of my lease so longe last paieng the the olde accustomed Rent bynding the aforesaid Henry his wief and his lawfull children not to lett nor set noe parte nor parcell thereof and the aforesaid Henry his wief and his lawfull children to repaire and maintaine the saide Mill at theire owne proper coste and charges. Item I give and bequeath to my Cosen Lyonell Harrison of yevill one bargaine being half a place of [chantery ?] holde for the terme of sucke yeres as the lease doth containe as frely as it is myne paying suche duties unto Margeri Meade Widdow during her lief as I paied and was acustomed to paye Furthermore I give one half place to Giles Towker which he now possesseth and my goosd will is that he shall enjoye suche state as I have in yt Also I have one other halfe place og [two abbreviated words illegible] holde, And my will is that my Kinsman Rainoll Harrison shall enjoye yt which I give hym frelye All the residue of my goods moveable and unmoveable as farmes bargaines leases Rents and all other commodities not given and bequeathed I give and bequeath unto Lyonell Harrison the sonne of my brother Thomas Harrison whome I make and ordaine my Whole executor to dispose the same as he and my Overseers shall sene best for my soules helthe Item I bynde my executor Lyonell Harrisonne that he shall not lett not lett not parte nor portion of my farmes unto his father Thomas Harrison Furthermore I bynde my executor to performe and content all the Legacies above speciffied according to the true meaning of this my presente Will or elce my Ov[er]seers to dispose my goods and [lininge ?] for my soules helthe as they shall thinke best And also my will is if Lionell my executoir die withoute man childe, that then my Ov[er]seers shall dispose to one of my name of the Harrisons all my farmes and [lininge ?] given to my executor as they shall think mot [mete?] and convenient to occupie and enjoye the same according unto theire discrecions. Moreover I doe appointe my trustie neighbors Lyonell Harrison of yevill and Will[ia]m Colmer of Preston to be my Overseers of this my presente laste Will and testamente And for suche paines as thery shall take in and uppon the same I doe give to every of them xxs [twenty shillings] a peece These being Witnes
