The 1643 will of Thomas Lane

In the name of God Amen the the Fowerth daye of marche In the yeare of the raigne or our Sowaigne Lord Charles By the grace of God Kinge of England Scotland Fraunce and Ireland defender of the faithe & the xixth [19th] An[n]o D[om]in[i] 1643. I Thomas Lane of Evill in the Countye of Som[er]s[e]tt Tailor being sicke in bodie but of Perfect mynde and memorie (thankes be Unto Almightie God) Doe make and ordayne this my laste will and testament in manner and forme followinge (That is to saie) Firste I bequeath my Sole into thands of Almightie God my onely maker and redeemer and my bodie to be buried in the Churchyarde of the P[ar]ishe Church of Evill aforesaid Item I give & bequeath unto ye P[ar]ishe Church of Evill aforesaid xs [10 shillings] Item I give and bequeath unto the poore people of the p[ar]ishe of Evill aforesaid xs [10 shillings] It[e]m my will is that Alise my wife shall hold & enjoy my Messuage or Burgage w[i]th thappurtenances scituate in Evill aforesaid wherein I now dwell for soe manie of the number of yeares menconed in the lease thereof as hall run out and expire duringe her naturall life and noe longer Under the accustomed Rent and Keepinge the same in good repa[ra]cons And if my said wife shall happen to dy before the full terme of the said yeares be expired I doe absolutely give and bequeath the said Messuage or Burgage w[i]th thappurtenances Unto Thomas Atkins and Ursula Atkins my Cosens (and Sonne and Daughter unto Ralphe Atkins) theire Executors Adm[inistrator]s & Assignes for and duringe All the rest and residue of the said terme of yeares w[hi]ch shalbe then to come unexpired and fully to be Compleate & ended Item I give and bequeath unto my eldest brother William Lane the some of Fower pounds in money my Graie cloth coate and Cloth sute Item I give & bequeath unto Joane Barrett my Sister the some of Fower pounds Item I give & bequeath unto Marye Atkins my Sister the some of Fyve pounds Item I give & bequeath unto my Cosen Marie Whittinoll the Some of Fyve pounds Item I give & bequeath unto my brother in Lawe Ralph Atkins my best close cloake my best blacke suite and a Freese coate Item my will is that the sewell somes of monie before given & bequeathed shalbe payd by my Executrix w[i]thin one yeare & a daye next after my decease Item all the residue of my goods and Chattles moveable and unmoveable (not before given nor bequeathed) my debts & legacyes payd & funerall expence discharged I give & bequeath Unto my said Wife whome I doe make & ordaine my full & whole Executrix of this my last will & testament And I desire and doe make Christopher Allambridge & Thomas Brooke to be my overseers to see this my last will & testament proved & performed In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & Seale [Yeoben ?] the daie & yeare above written

The eigth day of october In the yeare of our Lord God accordinge to the Computation of the Church of England one thousand Sixe hundred Fifty and eight [word illegible] forth a Commission to John Cary the nephew and sole executor of Alice Lane who (whilst shee lived) was the relict and sole Executrix of Thomas Lane deceased To administer the goods Chattles and debts of the said Deceased according to the tenor of the said will For that the said Executrix Dyed before shee tooke upon her the execution of the said Will Hee the said John Cary beeinge first sworne by Commission trulye to Administer the same
