1653 will of Katherine Leeves

In the name of God Amen The Seaventeenth day of May Anno 1653 I Katherine Leeves of the parish of Yeavell in the County of Somersett Spinster being sick and weak of body but of perfect minde and memory (thankes be given unto Allmightye God) doe make and ordaine this my Last Will and Testament in manner and forme followinge First I commend my Soule into the handes of Allmighty God my maker and redeemer hopeinge through the merritts of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have remission of all my Sinnes and to be Partaker of the heavenly joyes with the Saints and angells in heaven And my body I committ to christian buriall in the earth from whence it came Item I give and bequeath unto my brother John Leeves his fower Children the Summe of Fower poundes twentiy shillings apeece to be equally divided amongst them Item I give and bequeath unto my brother John Leeves himselfe the Summe of tenn shillings Item I give and bequeath unto my brother William Leeves the Summe of tenn poundes Item I give and bequeath unto my brother William Leeves his two Children the Summe of Forty Shillings twenty shillings a piece to be divided equally betwixt them All the rest of my goods I give and bequeath to my Sister Dorothy Williams whom I make and ordaine my whole and Sole executrix of this my last will and testament hopeing that my Executrix will performe to pay these legacies which I have given as is aforesaid expressed In witnes hereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seal in the presence of these here undernamed the day and yeare abovesaid Revoakinge hereby all former wills by me made And further I would desire my Loveing friends John Phelps Smith of the parish of Yeavill and Jeremiah Atkins of the same parish grocer to be my Overseers of this my last will and testament

This will was proved at London the Second day of the month of July in the yeare of our Lord God one Thousand six hundred Fifty and eight before the Judges for probat of wills and grantinge Administrations Lawfully authorised by the oath of Dorothy Williams the naturall and lawfull Sister of the said deceased and sole Executrix named in the Said will to whom was committed administration of all and singular the goods Chattles and debtes of the said deceased Shee the said Dorothy Williams being first Sworn in due forme of Lawe by vertue of a Commission well and truly to Adminster ye same
