1698 will of Hugh Wyndham

Brigadier, of Newton Surmaville

 

In the Name of God Amen The Thirtieth Day of July in the year of our Lord God one Thousand six Hundred and Ninety and Eight I Brigadier Hugh Wyndham now at Newton S[ur]mavill in the parish of Yeovill in the County of Somersett although sicke in body yet of good perfect and sound minde and memory praised be Allmighty God therefore Doe make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following (that is to say) First and chiefely I commend my Soul and Body to the mercy and protection of Allmighty God being fully persuaded by his Holy Spirit through the Death and passion of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to obtaine full pardon and Remission of all my sinns and to be everlastingly happy in the Resurrection with the Just which the Holy Trinity one eternal deity be all honour and Glory for ever Amen I will and ordain that all such debts as I shall happen to owe at my decease shall be truely paid as they sdhall grow due And as touching the Funerall of my body I leave it to the discretion of my Executrixes hereafter named to be decently Interred without Exhaustation I give and bequeath unto my Godson Wyndham Harbin Twenty pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my God Daughter Frances Harbin the Sume of Twenty pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my brother in Law William Harbin to buy him Mourning the sume of Ten pounds of good and lawful money of England And after my Debts which I shall owe being Defaulted my Legacies paid and Funerall Charges deducted I give devise grant and beqeath All the Rest and Residue of all and singular my Goods Chattells Plate Jewells Rings and Debts to me owing and ready money and all that is in my power to give shall be Limited and Reckoned in Three Equall parts One full Thirtd equall parte thereof I give and bequeath unto my Sister Elizabeth Harbin the wife of my said brother in Law William Harbin Another full third Equall parte whereof I give and bequeath unto my Sister Rachell Wyndham And the other full third Equall parte whereof I give and bequeath unto my Sister Fraunces Wyndham Equally and proportionably to be Divided amongst them And of this my last Will and Testament I doe limitt appoint constitute ordain and make my dearl beloved Sisters Rachel Wyndham and Fraunces Wyndham my whole and sole Executrixes unto whom I give all that I have power to give as aforesaid IN Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seale the Day and year first above written
