Jolly Sailor Inn
Preston Plucknett
The Jolly Sailor Inn was a beerhouse in Preston Plucknett, set up in the wake of the Beerhouse Act 1830. Its exact location is unknown.
The only known reference to the Jolly Sailor is from the 6 September 1834 edition of the Exeter and Plymouth Gazette in which it was reported that the 77-year-old landlady, Mrs Sarah Taylor, was found dead.
There are no further mentions of the Jolly Sailor Inn in the records following the demise of Mrs Taylor, but it may have been a precursor to the Bell Inn - first recorded in 1842..
