sun inn (3)
Monmouth Road
The Sun Inn was built in the mid-1950's to serve the Monmouth Road / Charles Road / Rosebery Avenue area where much inter- and post-war housing was being developed.
In that sense it was a typical uninspiring 'estate' pub of the period, red brick under a tiled roof in much the same vein as the Green Dragon, Milford Inn and the Royal Standard and, like these others, the Sun Inn became a little 'tired' and had an almost exclusively local clientele towards the end of its life.
It closed in 2003 and was quickly demolished in early 2004, despite local protestations, and replaced with a block of flats, Seymour Court (see below).
