ANSWER: This is a shield bearing the arms of Goodford impaling Cholmondeley and is on a stone cottage built end-on to Mudford Road, near the Hundred Stone. When it was built, in 1821, it was the only building in the area and stood in a field called 'Beacon' and had been provided as a dwelling for an estate employee. You've really got to strain to see this from the road. If you knew where it is - you're a star! go to top of page |
