1833 will of Charles Masters

This is the last Will and Testament of me Charles Masters of Yeovil in the County of Somerset Tallow Chandler I give to my Cousins William Hooper Masters of Yeovil aforesaid Glove Manufacturer and Jonathan Masters his Brother all my books of every description (except my account books) equally to be divided between them I give and bequeath the Sum of one hundred pounds sterling unto the Minister and Deacons for the time being of the Baptist Church assembling in South Street Chapel in Yeovil aforesaid upon trust to invest the same in the public funds of Great Britain or on other good and sufficient security at their discretion and to pay the Interest Dividends & annual proceeds thereof unto or otherwise permit and suffer the same to be received by the Minister for the time being of the said congregation for ever I give and bequeath the sum of Fifty pounds sterling unto the Treasurer and Trustees for the time being of the "Baptist Western Society for the relief of the necessitous Widows & Orphans of Ministers of that denomination in the Counties of Cornwall Devon Dorset Hants Wilts Gloucester and Somerset" to be applied to the uses and purposes of that Society And I direct that the said Legacies of one hundred pounds and fifty pounds shall be paid within twelve Calendar months next after my decease out of my personal Estate I give and devise all and every my Messuages Tenements Lands and hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever in tenure they may be unto my Sister Maria Masters and her Assigns for & during the term of her natural life and from and after her decease I give and devise the same unto and to the use of my Brother John Masters his heirs executors adm[inistrat]ors and assigns according to the nature of the same respectively I give and bequeath all my monies Securities for money Goods Chattels and other the residue of my Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever (subject to the payment of my debts and funeral and testamentary expences and the Legacies hereinbefore give and bequeathed) unto the said William Hooper Masters and Edward Porter of Clifton Farm in the County of Dorset Gentleman their executors adm[inistrat]ors and assigns Upon trust to permit my said Sister Maria masters to have the use benefit and enjoyment thereof during the term of her natural life And from and after her decease Upon trust to call in and convert into ready money All such of my said personal Estate as shall consist of money or securities for money and also sell and dispose of such my said personal Estate as shall not consist of money or securities for money and to pay and divide the same equally between my brother Thomas Masters and my Niece Elizabeth the daughter of my deceased brother James Masters And lastly I appoint the said William Hooper Masters and Edward Porter joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament In trust nevertheless for the purposes aforesaid And I hereby declare that the receipt of the said William Hooper Masters and Edward Porter and the Survivor of them his Executors & Adm[inistrat]ors shall be a good discharge for all monies which in such receipt shall be expressed to be received and that all persons paying any monies to the said William Hooper Masters and Edward Porter or Survivor of them his executors & Adm[inistrat]ors for the purposes of this my Will and taking a receipt from him or them accordingly shall not be obliged to see the further application of the same monies nor be accountable for the misapplication thereof and I hereby also declare that neither my said Trustees his executors or administrators shall be answerable for the other of them or for the acts deeds or defaults of the other of them nor for involuntary losses nor for money received under receipts in which they shall join only for conformity and that they and each of them shall and may reimburse themselves and each other out of any monies that may come into their hands by virtue of these presents all costs and expences to be incurred by them in the execution of the Trusts aforesaid or in relation thereto In Witness whereof I the above named Charles masters the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in this and the preceding sheet of paper set my hand & Seal to wit my hand at the bottom of the said preceding sheet and my hand and Seal to this second and last sheet of paper this thirteenth day of July one thousand eight hundred & thirty three

The Writing contained in this and the preceding sheet of paper was signed and sealed by the above named Charles Masters the Testator and by him published and declared as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto in his presence and in the presence of each other

Proved at London 13th Oct[obe]r 1841 before the Judge by the Oaths of William Hooper Masters & Edward Porter the Executors to whom Adm[inistrati]on was granted having been first sworn by Com[missi]on duly to Adm[iniste]r
